There are three British Columbia Ferry terminals on Salt Spring Island: Fulford Harbour, Long Harbour and Vesuvius Bay. The closest to Salt Spring Vineyards is Fulford Harbour. The ferry to Fulford Harbour leaves from Swartz Bay, 17 miles north of Victoria on Vancouver Island. You can get to Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island via the British Columbia Ferry from Tsawwassen or via the Washington State Ferry from Anacortes, Washington. An alternate British Columbia Ferry route to Salt Spring Island is from Tsawwassen on the British Columbia Mainland, south of Vancouver, to Long Harbour. Sometimes the ferry from Tsawwassen goes directly to Salt Spring Island and other times it makes several stops on other Gulf Islands. You need to check the schedule (see link above to B.C. Ferries or The Ferry Traveller). Still another British Columbia Ferry takes you from Vancouver Island near the town of Duncan, British Columbia to Salt Spring Island. This run is called the Crofton to Vesuvius ferry. If you are coming by seaplane Harbour Air and Seair airlines fly in and out of Ganges Harbour several times a day. You can rent a car in Ganges or get a taxi out to Salt Spring Vineyards. Finally, you may also fly into Victoria International Airport and proceed 7 miles north to the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal and then to Fulford Harbour on Salt Spring Island. If you arrive on Salt Spring Island by foot, there are car rental agencies on the island who will arrange to meet you at ANY of the Salt Spring Island terminals. (You can also rent a car in Sidney, British Columbia, the town near Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal.) |
